15-year-old Youngstown student arraigned on felony attempted murder charge after shooting near school
A juvenile student - who was arrested Thursday following a shooting that reportedly stemmed from a fight at school on December 17 - was in the Mahoning County Juvenile Court for an arraignment.
Devon Brown, 15, was arraigned Friday on charges of attempted murder (F1) with a firearm specification, noting that a firearm was used or carried during the offense.
According to police, the shooting stemmed from a fight that Brown and another 15-year-old student had earlier in the day on December 17 at Woodrow Wilson Alternative School.
The shooting happened December 17 just after 2 p.m. on the 2700 Block of South Avenue. The victim was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
The Youngstown Police Department later stated that the victim is in stable condition.
A spokesperson for the Youngstown City School District told 21 News that they do not believe Brown ever had a gun on school grounds.
Brown's next hearing has not been set at this time.
