Carl Pelini will not return as head football coach at Cardinal Mooney next season.

According to a statement from Cardinal Mooney High School, the school did not renew Pelini's contract for the 2025 football season. 

Pelini led the Cardinals for five seasons and went 17-36. The Cardinals made the playoffs four of the five seasons.

Pelini's contract as athletic director is also not being renewed.

The statement does not list a specific reason for not renewing Pelini's contract, but says the school came to this decision "after a comprehensive review of [its] football program."

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Coach Carl Pelini for his contributions to our program. We appreciate his time, efforts and leadership throughout his tenure and wish him the best in his future endeavors," the statement reads.

The statement goes on to say the school will look for a new head coach who will continue the development and growth of the football team.

"Our goal is to find a leader who will promote excellence, discipline and teamwork both on and off the field," the statement reads.
