Mountain Lion? Cougar? ODNR addresses feline photo out of Salineville

SALINEVILLE, Ohio -

A photo posted in a Salineville area Facebook group has caused quite a stir in the community.

The picture shows some kind of feline and commenters speculated that a mountain lion or cougar could be in the area.

21 News reached out to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources about the mystery cat. An ODNR official examined the photo and said the cat in the picture is just that, a house cat.

It's been a long time since a confirmed mountain lion sighting in the Buckeye State.

ODNR said the last mountain lion in Ohio was reported all the way back in the 1840s.

Bobcats are one of seven wild cat species found in North America and are commonly found in Ohio after they began to repopulate in the mid-1900s, according to ODNR.
