Driver transported to hospital after crews respond to semi on fire on I-76
Boardman fire crews are currently on scene for a semi truck on fire on I-76.
According to Boardman dispatchers, the semi rolled over at mile marker 228.6 and is currently on fire. Boardman fire crews are currently on the scene working to put out the fire.
21 News crews on scene observed a semi in the middle of a grass median with severe damage from the fire. Boardman Assistant Fire Chief, Rob John tells 21 News that the driver was traveling westbound when he eventually went off the road and into the median.
It's unclear at this time what exactly caused the truck to go off the road.
Crews with the Ohio Turnpike were at the scene along with the Boardman and Canfield Fire Departments and Mahoning County OSP.
Dispatchers say medical crews were sent to the scene as well. Assistant Chief John tells 21 News that the driver was transported to the hospital with "moderate injuries" including burns and lacerations.
We're told OSP is handling the investigation of the crash.
