First responders were called out just before sunrise Friday to rescue a driver whose car tumbled down an embankment along Interstate 680 in Austintown.

State troopers tell 21 News that the Nissan Sentra went off the highway as it was taking the exit from Route 11 to southbound I-680 just before 7 a.m.

Crews said the car was so far down the embankment, they considered using a basket to bring the patient safely from a wooded area.

However, the victim was able to get out of the vehicle on his own.

Troopers believe the driver suffered a medical issue before going off the road. He wasn't injured in the crash.

Traffic along the exit ramp was down to one lane as a tow truck brought the car up the embankment.
