There was some traffic congestion on Interstate 680 Thursday evening after a vehicle burned up in the southbound lanes.

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. near the Route 224 exit when police said a Honda Civic with a man and woman inside started smoking.

They pulled off to the side of the road where the car burst into flames.

The southbound lanes were shut down for a brief time but traffic is now moving again as of 6 p.m.

Police said no one was injured.

The cause of the car fire is under investigation.
