An investigation into an alleged rape is underway in Niles.

According to Niles police, a 20-year-old girl was walking on the bike path that crosses over Grant Street on August 2 around 4:30 a.m.

The victim was sexually assaulted by a man on a dark area of the trail.

The victim described her attacker as a tall male with a beard on a bike.

No arrests have been, but police are still investigating.

"A lot of time, criminals like to brag. They like people to know about what they did. And somebody may make a remark about this event. If somebody said something like that, absolutely call us," said Captain John Marshall of the Niles Police Department.

Captain Marshall says it's unclear if the victim personally knew the alleged attacker.
