The FDA says that it is continuing to investigate a potential link between some foods and heart disease in dogs.

More insight was provided into the issue on Thursday between the possible link of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and dogs that had not previously been known to have a genetic connection to the disease.

Dry grain-free diets were linked to many of the cases as well as foods containing peas, lentils, and potatoes as main ingredients.

The FDA shared information with distributors named in reports but says that they not yet determined the nature of the possible connection of the foods to DCM.

Weakness, cough, and collapse were listed by the FDA as potential signs of a heart problem in pets.
