A very special Habitat for Humanity house dedication ceremony in Salem on Wednesday brought smiles and warmth on a cold day.
It is fun for the Hays family, as they got settled into their new home.
Robert and Amanda and their four children showed off every corner.
The house dedication comes a few months after the first bit of the structure was laid. With help from Salem, United Way, and grants, along with the family itself, Habitat turned another set of keys over to another deserving family.
Scott Taylor, executive director of the Mahoning Valley Habitat for Humanity, told 21 News, "The family also had to put in sweat equity, which they are required to come out to the house, do registration, help with volunteers, get lunches, work on the house, use a hammer."
All the work was worth the effort in ways the Hays family said they can't explain.
Robert Hayes told 21 News, "It is an amazing thing that Habitat does, and I hope they can continue to make people as happy and excited as we are."
Habitat employees say they always strive to build community and in turn build lives because after all, there's no place like home.
