The family of a Valley veteran received their son's Purple Heart, three months after he takes his own life due to struggles with PTSD and depression.

Congressman Bill Johnson presented the Purple Heart to Nanette Dillon of Canfield, Friday afternoon.

Her son, David Devellin, suffered serious injuries when a missile hit his Humvee while serving in Iraq.

His mother hopes more can be done to help people, like her son, deal with the ravages of war when they come home.

"We can't understand everything they've seen or been through. Unless you've been in the service you can't understand that world. Through everyday living and things going on in your life it's a struggle for people," said Dillon.

Congressman Johnson says more help is being offered to veterans in terms of getting them mental health care, but he says there needs to be a lot more done to make sure our veterans don't fall through the cracks.
