A Warren man is in the Trumbull County Jail, charged with stabbing a Howland man in the parking lot of the Cortland Dairy Queen.

Daniel Dicks, 38, was arrested Sunday night on a charge of felonious assault.

According to police, Dicks bond was set on Monday at $75,000.

Dicks is accused of stabbing 58-year-old Donald Jarvis of Howland Township just before 7:30 p.m. outside the South High Street business.

Jarvis was still alive when he was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, according to police.

Cortland Police Chief David Morris told 21 News that the stabbing followed an argument and that both men were in the same vehicle at the time of the argument.

Officers said there were also two women in the same vehicle as Dicks and Jarvis at the time of the incident. Officers said those women were interviewed by police

The chief added that an incident like this is very unusual for Cortland but said he believes all of those involved know each other.

The homicide task force was on the scene to assist. Morris said they are called in to help with serious crimes.

Authorities also stated that they do not believe this was a random act of violence, and there is believed to be no threat to the community.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the fight or anyone who has a video of the incident to call Detective John Weston at 330-638-1000.
