A Hubbard Township mother was released from jail and faces charges after police said they found her two teenage boys home alone eating ranch dressing out of packets.

Police said a neighbor called them in June after she saw the two boys, 18 and 14-years-old, only eating the ranch because they told her they had no food in the house and their mother, 37-year-old Tammy Brent, wasn't home.

The teens also told the neighbor their utilities were shut off at their home on Morningside Drive, which meant they had no electricity, natural gas or running water, according to a police report.

Police said the neighbor then ordered a pizza for them.

A caseworker from children's services was supposed to make a visit to the home, but the teens alleged Brent ignored his phone call.

When police looked through a window, they saw food sitting out that appeared to be rotting and trash throughout the living room.

There were also two dogs and a cat inside, according to police.

Police were then told by a caseworker that Brent was not coming for her children because she was afraid of being arrested and was allegedly staying with a friend that night, according to the report.

Both teens went to stay with a relative, according to police. The animals were taken by the humane society.

Brent faces charges of nonsupport of dependents and cruelty to companion animals.

Her next court date is scheduled for the beginning of August.
