Youngstown Police Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting on the city's South Side as a homicide.

Police dispatch received a call shortly before 4 a.m. Friday from a woman who said that her son had been shot on the 700 block of Wilbur Avenue.

Officers who arrived first say they found 38-year-old Delmas Pippin lying at the back door of a home.  According to a police report, Pippin was covered in blood and had been shot several times.

Police and an ambulance crew administered first aid until Pippin could be taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was in critical condition until he died about four hours later.

When 21 News arrived, police had put up crime scene tape and blocked Homestead Avenue at Wilbur Avenue to traffic.

Several evidence markers were placed on the street where police found shell casings.
