A Youngstown State University professor who was scheduled to be sentenced this week for attempted assault has been cleared of the charge.

Christopher Barzak pleaded guilty to the charge earlier after his husband told police Barzak punched him in the head two times during an argument in their home last October.

At the time of the plea, Barzak agreed to undergo counseling.

According to court records, the alleged victim appeared in Youngstown Municipal Court last month and asked that the case be dismissed, telling the judge that he was under the influence when he made the 911 call and could not remember any of the events from that evening.

The charges were dismissed and Barzak was ordered to pay any court costs and fines.
