Warren Police have charged a 46-year-old grandmother after she allegedly took her five-year-old grandson from home, spurring a search by area law enforcement Wednesday night.

Loretta Dorsey is scheduled to be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court on one count of interference with custody.

It started shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday after reports that 5-year-old  Isaiah Howard was missing after being taken from school by Dorsey. The Trumbull County 911 Center said that he has severe asthma and required medication.

According to authorities, Howard was picked up at some point from Willard Pre-K and Elementary School.

Warren City Schools Superintendent Steve Chiaro said that the boy was not taken from a classroom and that the district has reason to believe he may have been taken at some point during the dismissal process.

The school district is reviewing surveillance video in order to help in the investigation according to the superintendent.

Troopers sent out to surrounding counties.  The 911 Center traced a phone to I-90 west of Cleveland in the area of Lakewood.

Dorsey, who is the noncustodial grandmother of the boy, contacted police after learning they were looking for the child and said she planned to bring him back to Warren.

Around 9 p.m., the 911 Center reported that the boy made it back safely to the Warren City Police Station.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances into what happened because it is not clear if there was a miscommunication between the mother and grandmother and if the child was with the grandmother the entire time.

During the search, state troopers told 21 News that they forwarded the case details to investigators in Columbus to see if it met the requirements for an AMBER Alert.

Law enforcement agencies say there must be a belief that the child is in imminent danger and there must be enough descriptive information about the child to be helpful to the public in order for an AMBER alert to be issued.
