A Grove City business is being cited after police say they were called to answer several false alarms.

The Grove City Police Department said on Tuesday that it has filed a summary citation against Central Heating and Plumbing for failing to control their alarm

Police say charges were filed after police responded to the business at 804 W Main Street for false alarms on more than three occasions in a twelve-month period.

The most recent false alarm went off Friday night.

According to a 2011 report published by the U.S. Department of Justice, false alarms account for somewhere between 10 and 25 percent of all calls to police in the nation.

The report says for many U.S. police agencies, false burglar alarms constitute the highest-volume type of call for service.

In the United States alone, “solving the problem of false alarms would, by itself, relieve 35,000 officers from providing an essentially private service,” according to the report.
