YBI's fifth building is a game-changer

The Youngstown Business Incubator is putting the finishing touches on its fifth building: the former home of the Vindicator.
It's one of those iconic sites in Youngstown. Now, it's "Tech Block Building number Five" for the Youngstown Business Incubator, a building that pushes YBI's capabilities even farther.
"We always joked with our funders that it's like God said 'You shall have this building' because it's so perfect for us," said YBI CEO Barb Ewing. "It was manufactured for large presses and big pieces of equipment to come in and out and large deliveries. So it's very stout."
It adds about 65,000 square feet worth of possibilities.
"We've got a very high-end metal printer coming from EOS," said Ewing.
YBI already has a couple gigantic pieces being installed with more on the way, allowing companies within YBI to do things they simply couldn't do before.
"There's been a longstanding joke about not soldering in our existing facility, which is an office facility. I'm much more comfortable with companies soldering in here where they are far less likely to set the place on fire," said Ewing.
A couple companies are already setting up shop in the building, including Inventor Cloud, helping students make everything from foosball players to bongos.
One of the neat parts is that, right alongside everything shiny and new in this building, you'll also find a nod to the past with an old Vindicator linotype. From printing the news of the day, to 3D printing the materials of the future.
"So much of Youngstown's past has been documented here. It's so much a part of our fabric. And the fact that we were able to take what was a traditional printing facility and turn it into a 3D printing facility really is just a great part of the story," said Ewing.
A story, with exciting chapters still to come.
