A Canfield man is free on bond after authorities said he was the driver of an SUV involved in a crash that killed a child in Indiana.
Anthony J. Zircher, 45, of Callahan Road is charged with reckless homicide in connection with the traffic death of a five-year-old girl.
According to the Indiana State Police, 45-year-old Anthony J. Zircher of Callahan Road, Canfield, was driving in a no passing zone on May 11 in Wayne Township, Indiana when his vehicle was involved in a fatal crash.
Troopers say Zircher's Hyundai had just passed a pickup truck over a double yellow line and was about to pass a second vehicle along Route 227 when it ran head on into a south bound Toyota driven by Britney Lee Byrley, age 24, of Brownsville Indiana.
Byrley was seriously injured, and was taken to a hospital along with an infant who suffered injuries state police say were not life-threatening.
Five-year-old Jocelyn Grace Gesell, who was also a passenger in the Toyota, was flown by medical helicopter to a Dayton, Ohio hospital where she later died.
Both children involved in the crash were properly restrained in child seats, according to police.
Zircher was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening at the time.
The road was closed for two hours while a crash reconstruction team conducted an investigation.
Zircher was arrested in Canfield last month and appeared in an Indiana courtroom where his bond was set at $12,500.
His next court hearing is scheduled for November 16.
