Canfield Local School District officials say they are taking a proactive stance when it comes to prevention of the West Nile Virus.

According to a media release, the district plans to fog all buildings and grounds tonight, (Friday, August, 25) as a precaution for pest control, including mosquitoes.

Although the Mahoning County District Board of Health reported earlier this month that infected mosquitoes were found in Canfield, Superintendent Alex Geordan pointed out that no mosquitoes have been found on school grounds that tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Just one week before, the Mahoning County District Board of Health informed officials in the Austintown School District that mosquitoes trapped in a school wetland area tested positive for the virus.

Austintown Schools, where classes begin Monday, applied a larvicide to prevent mosquitoes from hatching in the infected area.
