Calling the case a "horror movie", a judge delivers a harsh sentence to a former Youngstown boxer convicted of abusing his four-year-old son.

Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge R. Scott Krichbaum showed no mercy in giving Wesley Triplett the maximum possible sentence.

Wesley Triplet stared at the floor on Thursday as he waited in court to learn his sentence for the multiple injuries suffered by his four-year-old son.

The prosecution pointed out that Triplet has a prior history of violent offenses, including cases involving two other children under the age of five.

In asking for the maximum sentence the prosecution pointed out that Triplett has a history of violent offenses, including ones involving two other children under the age of five.

Judge Krichbaum reviewed how Triplet's four-year old suffered fractured ribs. was permanently scarred from whippings,  and deliberately burned.

"I don't know that I've witnessed anything more vicious or brutal, sadistic, or savage as these injuries. It's obvious that relentless cruelty was visited upon this helpless baby boy," Krichbaum said.

Triplet told the judge that he has four other children and that he's a good father. "I love my kids with all my heart," Triplett said.

That statement brought a stern response from the judge. "You make it worse by saying the stuff you're saying,  you're the one that did this to this little boy," Krichbaum said to Triplett.

The judge said in all his years on the bench, this case marked a dark day in his life.

Kirschbaum then sentenced the 31-year-old Triplett to the maximum on all charges, for a total of 27 years in the state penitentiary.
