Schaas’ vehicle was then forced into a stopped semi driven by Steven Cole of Apple Creek, Ohio.
A van driven by Guy Garner of Paterson, New Jersey, was in the left lane and was struck by the cab which separated from the semi driven by Kevin Roberts. The semi driven by Robert Brock caught fire after this crash.

Kevin Roberts was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital from the scene with serious injuries.

Traffic in the area was backed up due to road construction on IR 76 westbound.
Interstate 76 westbound has been closed since the crash.
Traffic is being diverted on SR 46 in Austintown.
The Ohio Department of Transportation is rerouting traffic around the crash scene by sending cars and trucks along Route 46, to Mahoning Avenue, to route 534.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said they don't suspect drugs or alcohol were the cause of the accident. They will be looking at the main driver's log book to see how long the driver had been on the road.
A reconstruction team will be brought in to try and find out how fast the drivers were going prior to the accident. The speed limit in the area is 70 miles per hour. Although the area where the crash happened is currently a temporary construction zone, the speed limit had not been reduced.
Ohio State Highway Patrol said they will be contacting the Mahoning County prosecutor's office to see if any charges will be pressed.
