A man driving on Youngstown's South Side at around 6:00 a.m. Monday found a water line break the hard way.

The front end of a Jeep plunged into a water-filled hole that had opened at the entrance to the Burger King restaurant at Newton Square near Midlothian Boulevard.

Dan Nelson was able to escape unharmed and drank a cup of coffee as he waited for a tow truck to arrive.

"My truck needed a little washing, so I saw this little puddle and thought well I could just go through it. Bam, I'm in there," said Nelson. The headlights were under water and I'm looking around, the only one around was like oh man, oh man, oh man."

It took two two trucks to remove the Jeep, one to lift it, and the other to pull it away from the hole.

"I'm just very thankful to the towing company they used two trucks to get my truck out unscathed. I love my truck," said Nelson.

Crews from the Youngstown Water Department spent the morning repairing the water line.

Water Department Chief Engineer Gene Leson tells 21 News that if a boil alert is issued, it may be hand delivered to the businesses that were affected by the break.
