Police in Warren Township are investigating multiple shootings in the area, one of which left one man dead.

Authorities believe an assault rifle was used at when gunfire broke out at home in 200 block of Bane Street SW at around 4 a.m. Monday.

So far investigators have found more than 35 shell casings near the home, many of which police say came from an assault rifle.

"That's the one that's most important to us, because there were a lot of those and those are very dangerous," Don Bishop said, Warren Township police chief.

Neighbors tell 21 News they heard a series of gunshots at least twice that many have been about 10 minutes apart.

A 66-year-old Mark Cleveland was shot and died shortly after. Police say he upstairs in a front bedroom at the time with one of his grandchildren when he was shot. Police say it's possible he was shot near a main artery in his leg.

Cleveland was one of about a dozen other people inside the house, including his wife, grandchildren and other family members. Police are interviewing family members as they work to determine a motive. 

"We have interviewed a couple of the family members and we're going to continue," Bishop said. 

Investigators say that bullets struck several other homes in the area including a home on Sweetbriar Street SW and on North Park Avenue. No one was hurt at any of the other locations.

Neighbors report seeing an SUV pull away from the home.

Warren Township police are leading the investigation along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Warren police. Police say they're following up on leads on possible suspects.
