Book bag giveaway Saturday in Girard
With the start of the school year around the corner, Girard is hosting a book bag giveaway and family fun day on Saturday.
With the start of the school year around the corner, a book bag giveaway and family fun day will be held Saturday in Girard.
The 7th annual Lena Mason Christian Memorial Foundation event will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Tod Park.
Free backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to children at the event.
In order to receive a book bag, participants must register at the park beforehand.
Registration opens at 12:30 p.m. and the giveaway begins at 3:00 p.m.
Organizers say families at the event can also enjoy free food, face painting, clowns, crafts, and games.
The fun day, to take place rain or shine, is open to all families regardless of whether they need a backpack.
The annual event is held in memory a mother, Lena Cross, and her two young children, Mason and Christian Pizzullo, who were murdered in Girard 11 years ago.
Organizers say approximately 400 book bags were given away last year.
