Warren teen appears in court for shooting death of father
A 14-year-old Warren girl appeared in Trumbull County Family court Tuesday on charges filed in connection with the shooting death of her father.
The Warren teen accused of fatally shooting her father appears in court for the first time to answer to the charge filed against her.
Through her attorney, Bresha Meadows entered a plea of "not true" to a charge of aggravated murder with a gun specification.
The 14-year old could be seen shaking in her handcuffs while her mother cried in the courtroom.
Meadows is accused of fatally shooting her father, 41-year-old Jonathan Meadows, at their Hunter Street home during the early morning hours of July 28.
The teen agreed to waive time limits that the prosecution has to decide if it will send the case to a grand jury.
If tired and convicted as a juvenile, Meadows would stay locked up in the dention center until age 21.
So far, the Trumbull county prosecutor's office has yet to file a motion to attempt to try her as an adult, where she would face up to life without parole if convicted.
The court can only locate one report filed in the past by Meadow's mother against her her husband Jonathan Meadows, which claimed he threatened her. Meadow's mother also filed a request for a protection order against her husband in 2011, but the request was later dropped.
Police and investigators have yet to determine a motive for the shooting. Trumbull County Children Services says it does not have an open case involving Bresha Meadows and would not close any case if there were suspicions of potential abuse. The agency can't comment whether any cases involving Meadows was ever opened in the past.
"You just don't know what's going on behind those doors," Megan McCarty said, a Hunter Street neighbor in Warren.
McCarty says her children would often play with Bresha Meadows. She tells 21 News she never noticed anything that would indicate problems inside the Meadow's home.
"I have children and their children would play outside everyday and that's about the only thing, there was never anything that I would consider unusual," McCarty said.
Meadows remains detained as a serious offender until the court allows her to post bond. The juvenile court is working to schedule a pre-trial hearing.
