Several crews worked together Wednesday to contain a fire at a Brookfield home one firefighter describes as a mansion.
First alerted by the home's alarm system, the Brookfield Fire Department was dispatched to 1304 Custer Orangeville Road before 5:30 p.m.
Responders found heavy fire on the entire second floor of the house when they arrived.
A mother and daughter who were home at the time were able to escape, however one was taken to the hospital for injuries firefighters say were not life-threatening.
Units from Brookfield, Sharon and Vienna were on the scene for about three hours to complete the job as well as a water tanker from Trumbull County since there were no fire hydrants in the area.
Officials say it took around a half-hour to contain the flames to the second floor where the fire started in a spare bedroom.
The home, which firefighters say is valued at $560,000, sustained damages estimated at $250,000 from a combination of flames, smoke and water.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
