The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles says that they will now be accepting credit cards as payment.

All BMV locations in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana Counties began accepting credit cards on Monday.

By Friday, Ohioans statewide should be able to use credit cards at all BMV sites.

The BMV used to only accept check or cash because, according to bureau, they were not allowed to pass credit card fees along to the customer.

Now, however, those who use their card will be charged an additional fee of $1.25 or 1.95 percent, whichever is greater.

BMV spokeswoman Lindsey Bohrer says a few sites began offering the credit card option in a pilot program last week.   Enough positive feedback was received to expand the program across the state.

Ohio drivers can use their cards for driver's licensing, registration renewals, and other BMV purchases.
