The detours are expected to remain in place until mid-August.
Route 718 continues to be closed to northbound traffic from Union Street in Farrell to a point north of Malleable Street in Sharon. A detour is posted using Route 18 and Route 62 (Shenango Valley Expressway).
Route 718 southbound will remain open to traffic, but there will be a 10-foot width restriction.
Phase 2 of the Broadway Avenue Improvement Project focuses on the 1.1-mile long section of Route 718 (Martin Luther King Boulevard/Dock Street) from Roemer Boulevard in the City of Farrell to Malleable Street in the City of Sharon.
The road is being widened and reconstructed to provide a center left-turn lane and radius improvements at various intersections. Work includes sidewalks with brick pavers, concrete steps, and highway lighting with decorative light poles. The project is also providing a new traffic signal at the intersection with Roemer Boulevard, and updated drainage, utilities, signs and landscaping.
The contractor is Kirila Contractors of Brookfield, Ohio. The contract cost is $7,470,000, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
The second phase of the project is expected to be completed in November 2016.
