Thousands tour GM Lordstown Plant on 50th Anniversary

GM Lordstown officials estimate that close to 10,000 people may have toured the car plant on Friday, as part of the 50th Anniversary Open House celebration.
Like a well oiled machine GM Lordstown's Assembly Line works to produce the Chevrolet Cruze, which is currently among the World's best selling vehicles.
People were willing to wait in line, a line that was up to an 1/8th of a mile long at one point, just for their chance to tour the plant.
Charles Varney is from Lake Milton, "I'm an old car enthusiast and I love Chevrolets and I've never done anything like this or was never able to, so it was a nice opportunity for me."
Lordstown is among the highest volume single line vehicle assembly facilities in the World. With total production at over 15-million vehicles since production started in 1966.
Sarah Hurley and her husband traveled from Ontario, Canada for the tour, "I like what they've done to the place since we've last seen it. Definitely a lot of upgrades. I love the colors of the car that was may main thing."
Whether this is the first time you've seen the plant or you've been here before, many were just impressed with the advancements the Lordstown Plant has made to keep manufacturing World class cars.
Jim Dudley from Austintown tells 21 News, "It's fantastic just to see the engineering to set this thing up to do the process. Yes. It was really amazing."
And even former workers who supervised at Lordstown at one time were happy to return to see the plant that's made them proud.
Dominic Cercone worked at Lordstown for 40 years, "To see from beginning to end when you've got seven miles of conveyors and then also the repairs and the things that you have to do with cars it's just unbelievable."
