Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren is inviting the community to join in their Easter services and firework celebration.

This weekend, the church is celebrating Easter, which falls on Sunday. A representative from St. Demetrios said the church observes Easter on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, which falls right after Passover.

High Street at Elm Road and Vine Avenue will be closed Friday 8–10 p.m. Also closing at this time is Vine Avenue at High Street and Porter Street.

Friday, the church will begin the hour-long Service of Lamentations at 7 p.m. Churchgoers will then take part in a procession around the church where they will chant hymns.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Saturday, churchgoers will pray during the Service of Resurrection.

Around midnight parishioners will go outside the church, where the resurrection of Christ will be proclaimed.

Fireworks will follow at Perkins Park.

High Street at Vine Avenue and Elm Road will close for fireworks from 11:30 p.m. Saturday until 12:15 a.m. Sunday.
