The Kinsman Township man convicted of forging documents to obtain Ohio license plates reserved for wounded war veterans is in jail again.

Keith Chandler, 35, returned to the Trumbull County Jail on Thursday to begin serving the remainder of a jail sentence handed down one year ago this week for forging papers needed to qualify for Purple Heart license plates.

The 11th District Court of Appeals has now denied Chandler's appeal of his conviction on several counts of tampering with records and forgery, which resulted in a ninety day jail sentence and five years probation.

The former U.S. Marine only served about one month of the sentence before a judge released him last April until his appeal could be decided.

During the time he was free, Chandler was arrested in Lake County on allegations that he fraudulently attempted to obtain insurance money to perform construction work on a local church.

Madison Township Police said Chandler, who is a construction contractor, allegedly forged a document as part of the scheme.

Chandler was convicted of falsification and sentenced to five days in jail, but avoided serving that sentence by volunteering to replace a roof on the Niles home of David Denovchek, who donated part of his liver to a four-year-old girl last year.

Chandler faces a probation violation hearing later this month in Trumbull County Court.
