Fire Chief Jon Bland is asking members of the Farmington Township community to show support for the operators of a fire ravaged sawmill who must now rebuild.

Bland reports that crews from his department were dispatched to a fire at a working sawmill along the 7100 block of Girdle Road shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Those first on the scene called in a second alarm after reporting that flames had spread throughout the building.

The fire caused extensive damage to much of the contents of the building, including heavy machinery and equipment.

Investigators are still looking for the cause of the fire.

Departments from Middlefield, Southington, Mesopotamia, Champion, Bristol and Bloomfield were called in to battle the blaze.
