The Crawford County Coroner has identified the two victims killed in a plane crash about 21 miles north of Greenville, Pennsylvania.

The pilot has been identified  as Timothy Williams, 59, of Hartford Township in Trumbull County and the passenger was Nathan R. Koontz, 33, from Linesville, PA.

The coroner's office will conduct autopsies on the victims Wednesday.

The Pennsylvania State Police say the small plane was last detected on radar by the Youngstown Airport before crashing.

The  FAA is trying to determine what caused the small plane to crash.

Government records describe William's plane as a Cub experimental aircraft.

The secretary of state lists Williams as the operator of Hartford Aviation LLC of Hartford, Ohio.   Koontz and his wife operated the Forestview Restaurant in Linesville, Pa.

PSP was also unable to tell reporters where the plane took off from or was heading. However, officials say it went off radar from the Youngstown airport at 6:22 p.m. Monday.

Shortly after, at 6:38 p.m. residents living near the corner of Airport and Wheeler Roads in Conneaut Township reported to officials a low flying aircraft. They estimate to police that 30 seconds later they heard an explosion.

The thick fog made it difficult for search crews to locate the fallen plane. They were unable to use the assistance of aircrafts.

Two volunteer searchers on A.T.Vs eventually discovered the aircraft just before 10 p.m. in a heavily wooded area about 1/4 mile from Airport Rd.
