The Ohio Turnpike and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are starting a campaign to urge drivers to be distraction free to help ensure safe travel for the holidays.
The Turnpike will be distributing 100,000 brochures to travelers at the 14 service plazas across the state through New Year's Day.
"We are distributing information about distracted driving to holiday travelers and truck drivers," said Randy Cole, Executive Director of the Ohio Turnpike.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a use of a cell phone, including texting, behind the wheel was a factor in 16 percent of all distracted driving crashes in 2014.
As part of the campaign, the Ohio Turnpike is also asking drivers to pledge to drive cell phone free.
Ohio Turnpike officials estimate 195,000 vehicles will travel on the turnpike the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving.
