State Troopers are investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that claimed one life on Tuesday.

It happened at around 1 p.m. on  Raccoon Road south of Burgett Road along the Austintown and Canfield Township line.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt crossed the center line of Raccoon Road and drove head-on into an approaching 2013 Honda Accord.

Workers with Boak and Sons, Inc. were repairing the roof on the log cabin. They tell 21 News they saw the Cobalt burst into flames.

"You would think me and my guys had practiced doing this, we were off that roof so fast over there just trying to help them. I can't even explain it," said Roofer Chris Denno.

The roofers rushed to the burning car and broke the window to rescue the passenger.

"I bashed out the back window and all this smoke started to come out, black smoke and I heard somebody in there so I started bashing," described Roofer Richard Markel.

The men were able to pull the passenger of the car to safety but, were unable to rescue the driver.

"I got as close as I could with the fire extinguisher, when the car exploded the second time it burned my eyes so bad and I fell back and we just had to pull away. There was nothing I could do for her," said Denno.

Investigators say 75-year-old Frank Costa of Canfield, who was driving the Honda, was not seriously injured.

"By the time we got over there he was already out of his car, standing on the side of the road. He was alright. He was up walking around fine," said Roofer Chris McKenzie.

Authorities have not released the name of the the female killed in the crash.

The male passenger in the burning car was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries.

The roadway was completely shut down due to the accident.

A state accident reconstruction team was called to gather evidence at the crash scene.
