There's already backlash to a renewal levy for Youngstown City Schools since the state run CEO plan became law.

The school board president said one concern is the money will eventually support the new plan, which could turn schools into charter schools.

During the Union Baptist Church Candidates Forum Monday, the district's treasurer argued the renewal is needed to pay basic operating costs regardless if the board or a CEO is in charge.

"There shouldn't be confusion because the levy is needed no matter who's running the school district. It's spent for the kids which it should be," said Youngstown City Schools Treasurer James Reinhard.

The 10.7 mill renewal levy would raise just under $5.3 million dollars over four years.
