Bessemer Police Chief fatally shot while cleaning gun

State Police say the Police Chief of Bessemer Borough died after apparently accidentally shooting himself while cleaning a gun.
Investigators say 56-year-old Thomas Macri was found by his girlfriend at his Gardener Center Road home shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday.
Macri had sustained a chest wound while cleaning a .40 caliber pistol, according to State Police.
He was taken to Jameson Hospital by emergency medical services and pronounced dead about one hour later.
A preliminary investigation revealed no indication of foul play according to State Police.
A forensic examination was conducted on Monday by a pathologist at Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver, Pennsylvania.
According to report, the projectile severed an artery which caused Macri to bleed to death.
The manner of the death will be determined after toxicology tests as well as the outcome of the State Police investigation.
Bessemer, Pa. is located across the state line about seven miles southeast of Poland, Ohio.
Macri was a retired New Castle City Policeman where he had been the chief of the narcotics unit.
