A confrontation between Campbell police officers and a loose dog ended with the death of the dog and charges being filed against the woman who was caring for the animal.

According to a police report, residents of a Creed Circle home called officers Thursday night about a dog terrorizing them and their pets.

Bill Katsadas claimed that the dog had what he described as a seizure and temporarily lost consciousness. However Katsadas says when the dog came to, he attempted to attack him again.

Officers arriving on the scene say the Boxer was foaming from the mouth and growling at them.

Police say they had attached a leash to a pole and were hoping to lasso the animal when the dog charged one of the officers.

Another officer fired a taser at the dog, which police say slowed the animal, but did not stop it.

Police say the dog still failed to halt when the second officer fired his taser, so the first officer fired his taser again, immobilizing the animal.

After placing the leash on the dog, police deactivated their tasers.

Police say the dog lost consciousness and died.

According to the report, Betty Cleland, 56, arrived at the home and told officers that she was responsible for the dog. Cleland was issued a summons to appear in court for allowing the dog to run at large.

Police say the dog was not licensed.
