A father and son are dead following a fire at a home in Columbiana County.

The bodies of 32-year-old Jerry Bibbee and his five-year-old son Brice were found inside their burning home near Bibbees Lake on Old Lincoln Highway early Tuesday.

The West Point Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the house just after 1:45 a.m., where they found the single story wood frame home fully engulfed in flame.

West Point Fire Chief Wayne Chamberlain tells 21 News that half of the house had already collapsed.

Fire crews from Glenmoor, Calcutta and Liverpool Township also were on the scene.

In addition to fighting the fire, crews faced another challenge. Chief Chamberlain says that live ammunition stored inside the home was exploding.

One blast knocked Assistant Fire Chief Denver Mays down a hill. Chamberlain says Mays was not injured.

The body of the father was found in the living room. The child was found in a bedroom.

The Columbiana County Coroner is investigating.

An investigator from the Ohio Fire Marshal who was called to the scene is trying to determine the cause of the blaze.

Chamberlain says at this point there is no indication of foul play.

Firefighters were on the scene until after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
