Former Youngstown street gang leader sentenced to prison

The former leader of a Youngstown street gang is going to prison.
A ten year sentence was handed down on Tuesday to 24-year-old Darrell Mason, Jr., who authorities say led the Vic Boys criminal street gang.
Mason was convicted earlier on gang activity and weapons charges, as well as trafficking in cocaine, heroin and marijuana.
Mason is the sixteenth and last member of the gang convicted on charges stemming from an indictment issued in 2013.
Investigators say the gang was involved in street level drug trafficking and gun violence in and around the Victory Estates neighborhood on the east side of Youngstown.
The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force targeted the group because of neighborhood tips detailing their ongoing criminal activity and because the group had been a known catalyst for violence in Youngstown
