Authorities in Columbiana County are investigating two threats made at United Local Schools, one of which forced evacuation of the school.

A detective investigating the threats tells 21 News that they have traced two threatening phone calls to an out of state location. Authorities would not reveal from which state the calls originated.

Superintendent Steve Viscounte tells 21 News that the first threat came in Tuesday night when a male left a threatening message on the high school secretary's voice mail at around 7:00 p.m.  She discovered the message this morning.

As a precaution, Viscounte says that some students were kept on buses outside the school Wednesday morning. Students who were already inside the building were moved to the auditorium as police searched the building.

Nothing was found and classes resumed for the more than 1,200 students.

A second, similar call was received by the school nurse at 11:27 Wednesday morning. Columbiana County Sheriff Ray Stone says the caller claimed to be inside the school. This time the school was evacuated.

Sheriff Stone says that by 12:21 p.m., students were taken to a nearby church to wait for their parents to pick them up and take them home.

The State Highway Patrol, the Columbiana County Sheriff, Winona and Hanoverton Fire Departments were all called to the scene.

Bomb sniffing dogs from Youngstown, Cleveland, Kent and Toledo were also called to search the school after first responders conducted an initial search.

Sheriff Stone says that nothing posing a danger had been found inside the school.

Superintendent Viscounte tells 21 News that making such threats is considered a felony in Ohio.
