Residents were allowed to return to their homes Saturday morning after a gas well fire forced them to evacuate a neighborhood in Mercer County.
The fire broke out before 7:30 a.m. at the Hilcorp Energy gas well pad at 201 Pulaski Road.
A portion of Pulaski Road was closed, and the area was evacuated as a precaution. Crews from four Mercer County fire departments were placed on standby during the incident.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes after 9:00 a.m. No one was injured.
Hilcorp released a statement saying the the fire was confined to a separator, which is used to separate oil, gas and water. The equipment was housed in a metal building at the edge of the well pad. Hilcorp says that the cause of the fire is undetermined and the company is investigating. The Commonwealth's Department of Environmental Protection along with local first responders were immediately notified.
This is the second fire at a Hilcorp Energy site in Mercer County in as many months.
Two oil storage tanks at a natural gas well site in Jefferson Township caught fire and exploded in July. No one was injured.
