SHARON, Pa. - The Mercer County coroner ruled the death of a Shenango Township man accidental after an explosion in his garage Saturday.

Thomas R. Kobielus, 43, of 659 Bedford Rd., died of flash fire burns, the coroner's report reads.

Neighbors say Kobielus and a friend were working on snow mobiles in Kobielus' two-car garage prior to the explosion around 5:40 p.m.

The garage, which was not attached to the house, caught fire and could not be saved by fire crews.

The man in the garage with Kobielus was transported by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio with severe burns. His condition is unknown at the time of this report.

Kobielus' son also suffered burns when he tried to help the two men. He was taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.

The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the explosion and fire.
