One man dead after Shenango Township explosion
SHENANGO TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A Shenango Township man is dead and two others injured after a garage explosion.
The explosion happened shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday at a Bedford Road home.
Neighbors say the man and a friend were working on snow mobiles in the two-car, detached garage prior to the explosion.
"We're trying to put it together now," says Chief Riley Smoot of the Southwest Regional Police Department. "The information we've received so far is they were using fuel, working on small engines -- snowmobile or ATV -- then an explosion occured."
A neighbor says he didn't hear the explosion, but he did hear tapping and cracking then noticed the fire.
"I just happened to get up and look and the garage was engulfed in flames," says Robert Cross, of Bedford Road.
The man's son suffered burns when he tried to help the two men and is being treated at a local hospital.
The surviving man who was in the garage at the time of the explosion was transported by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center with serious burns.
The men's identities and cause of the explosion has not been released.
