Priest remains hospitalized following accident in Poland
POLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The pastor of a local Catholic church is hospitalized following a traffic accident on a slippery road.
Poland Township Police tell 21 News that the Reverend Stephen Popovich was injured around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday when his car slid along a curve on Struthers Road south of route 224, then clipped a pickup truck and hit a tree.
The driver of the pickup wasn't injured, but police say Father Popovich was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital.
Father Popovich is the pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in New Middletown.
Father Nicholas Shori of the Youngstown Diocese tells 21 News that Father Popovich is undergoing tests in the hospital. He describes his condition as critical, but stable.
