Sunday evening vigil set for victims of Sharon accident

SHARON, Pa. - A vigil will be held Sunday evening as team mates and the community remember 18-year-old Cory Swartz and 17-year-old Evan Gill, who along with 50-year-old John Zdelar died Friday night in a two vehicle head on crash in Sharon.
The vigil is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. Former Sharon Tigers football player, Rev. James Reardon will take part in the observance. People are being encouraged to bring lighters, cell phones, or flashlights to brighten the night and show the community that they stand united.
Players have elected to take part in the playoff game against Girard of Pennsylvania, which was postponed from Saturday until 7 p.m. Monday because of the tragic crash. The game will be played at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium. 21 News will be there to provide coverage.
Tiger's coach Jim Wildman says the team will remember Evan and Corey by wearing tiger paw decals on their helmets. "It will help give closer to a tough situation for a lot of people in this community. It will give the seniors an opportunity to finish or maybe play another game the way a season should end." said Wildman.
The football players' closest friends came together Saturday night to comfort each other during this time of grief. The group of seven have known each other since they played in the younger leagues in seventh and eighth grade.
Troy Hejazi had been with the group of players Friday night. He heard the fatal crash right after they dropped him off.
"I just wish that I could have said something else before I left the car knowing it was the last time I was going to see them, said Hejazi. "That I love them and I just hope they knew that. And that they'll always be in my heart. And they're my best friends."
Flags will be at half staff on Monday at all Sharon schools in memory of the victims. Grief counselors will be available at the schools.
