Valley native and actor Ed O'Neil to receive honorary doctorate from YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - An Emmy nominated actor and Youngstown native is making his way home this weekend.
Ed O'Neill will receive an honorary Doctor of Arts degree at Youngstown State University's spring commencement.
O'Neill attended Ursuline High School.
He then went on to Ohio University, where he had a football scholarship, and majored in history.
O'Neill left Ohio University after his sophomore year.
He transferred to Youngstown State University, where he also played football.
He was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969, but was cut in training camp.
While at YSU O'Neill studied drama and history.
He is best known for his roles in "Married with Children" and "Modern Family."
Commencement will be held May 18th.
