YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown police are going back to a fundamental way of patrolling the streets.
On Monday, officers started walking downtown beats. Two officers will work the foot partrol shifts between 10:00 a.m. and about 8:00 p.m.
Chief Rod Foley says as new businesses open, he wants customers to feel safe and to notice a police presence. "What we found over the years is if an officer is in a police car, people don't generally notice him. So we want to make sure they see them in a unique position, either on foot, on bike, or a scooter" Chief Foley said.
Foley says officers sign up for shifts and will get comp time for working.
