AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Cuts in state funding have forced Austintown Schools to reduce staffing.
The board of education met Monday night to eliminate three full-time teaching positions and nine non-teaching positions. Sixteen part- time positions will also be eliminated.
Austintown's superintendent says the district has made an effort to save money over the last few years and that has enabled them to save jobs. "We're anticipating a three million dollar reduction from the budget coming up, but we've reduced over time to have a little carry over," said Austintown Superintendent Vincent Colaluca.
The superintendent says closing Davis Elementary three years ago has saved the district over one and a half million dollars alone.
