YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - People in the Mahoning Valley will be among the first to sign petitions to repeal or reverse the law that will now limit collective bargaining for some 350- thousand public employees.

The group, We Are Ohio, Repeal SB5 is holding petition drives all around the state on Saturday, including here in the Mahoning Valley.

Opponents of the new law have until June 30th to collect the 231-thousand valid signatures needed to get a statewide referendum on the ballot.

The Democratic Party says it's estimated that each side will spend somewhere between 20 to 30 million dollars on advertising to get voters to the polls in November.

"We're going to be very aggressive in going out and getting signatures and we're going to make sure that the people are properly educated about this issue. If this thing stays the law, the Republican Party will be the dominant party for the next 100 years in Ohio," said Dave Betras, Chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party.

"The SB5 referendum is all about selfishness and greed. The Democrats are afraid that the money train that runs from the unions right in to the pockets of Democrat candidates is going to dry up," said Mark Munroe, Chairman of the Mahoning County Republican Party.
